Personal Growth

Volunteering offers the chance to develop new skills, gain valuable experience, and broaden your perspective on aging, caregiving, and community service.

Volunteers may contribute to the Council on Aging in a variety of ways. Episodic volunteers contribute through food drives, food transport, organization/inventory of food supplies, bagging packages, distribution records, distribution of hygiene items, special event set-up and clean-up, home rehabilitation, and neighborhood beautification projects. Participation typically consists of volunteer groups associated with churches, schools, youth clubs, leadership groups, and local service organizations, although individuals are always welcome.

Congregate dining sites and the Adult Day Care offer volunteer opportunities such as: entertainment, arts and crafts, speaker presentations, party activities, food service and clean-up. Volunteer participation may be ongoing or episodic, providing flexibility for students, interns, or working individuals that cannot make an ongoing volunteer commitment.

Volunteers that contribute to the Meals on Wheels program make an ongoing commitment of at least one morning per week, as the demands of the program and those of the clients require knowledgeable volunteers. Volunteers are given specific meal routes for meal delivery and take time to visit with each client so they may report back to program management for follow-up as needed. Extensive preparations must be made for episodic volunteers; accordingly, episodic volunteers are only scheduled for holiday meal deliveries, promotional events and fundraising activities.
