The Home Depot Foundation supports employees who volunteer to make improvements to an U.S. Army Veteran in East St. Cloud

WHO:

Osceola Council on Aging and The Home Depot Foundation “Helping Homebound Heroes” program

WHAT:

The Osceola Council on Aging (OCOA) and volunteers from The Home Depot in St. Cloud (store #6350) will build a 34 ft. wheelchair ramp for 71-year-old, Corporal John Walker, a U.S. Army Veteran, and his wife, Revena (69) in Holopaw (East St. Cloud). Corporal Walker served in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1975 during the Vietnam War and suffered injuries from Agent Orange as an E4 upon discharge and spent most of his time in administration work. This ramp will help John and his wife, Revena move around easier and will create a safer environment.

In addition, the volunteers will install smoke detectors, landscape with new plants and mulch and then finish by installing a 20-ft. lighted flagpole to celebrate the service that Corporal Walker and his wife have provided to this great nation.

“Our Veterans need our support, especially our elderly Veterans who served this great country for our freedoms,” said Wendy Ford, President of the OCOA. We value and cherish all Veterans, but the ones in our community are very special to us and we are honored to serve them with dignity and care. The partnership we have with The Home Depot Foundation is a tremendous support in helping our seniors keep their independence in their own home.”

“We are fans of the Osceola Council on Aging staff because they know what the needs are in our community for our Helping Homebound Heroes program,” said Ron Potvin, Store Manager at the St. Cloud Home Depot. “The OCOA team is on the ground and well- connected with the Veteran families and they know what can be done to keep them independent and safe in their own homes and that is very important to our mission at The Home Depot Foundation.”
