Thanksgiving Dinner Hosted by Council

Kissimmee, FL: Can you imagine a more historic November? A record breaking early Artic wind blew into Osceola County to begin the month, a financial crisis has everyone holding on for dear life, foreclosures and credit debt burden our households and some of the highest unemployment rates in recent history rests on the shoulders of our community. Despite these grim reflections of daily life, there is hope as the holiday season arrives. It reminds us that regardless of our circumstance there is family, a loved one and/or health that we can be thankful for in our lives. And this is just the beginning. Families gathering for Thanksgiving Day begin the traditional holiday season soon followed by Hanukkah, Ramadan, Christmas, Kwanzaa, New Years and Three Kings Holiday; a spirit we can all engage in during the next two months.

To help our community welcome in the season, the Osceola Council on Aging will host its annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Thursday, November 27 from 11am – 1pm at the Barney E. Veal Center. "We invite elderly and disabled adults who are alone and families in need to join us to celebrate Thanksgiving," stated Carmen Carrasquillo, Chief Operating Officer, of the Council on Aging. "A traditional Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings is just the recipe to make your day a lot happier and certainly much healthier," she continued.
"This is such a rewarding time for us," said Beverly Hougland, CEO of the Osceola Council on Aging. "To see our neighbors and clients and be sure they are not alone at this time of year is so very important," she continued. "To witness the outpouring of food and volunteers is comforting, reflecting the charitable character of Osceola County residents," she continued. The Council welcomes donations of pies, turkeys and canned goods to help create the dinner which is expected to draw between 300-400 persons.
